Yes, I admit this headline is a bit lurid and clickbait-ish. And this discussion - to be honest - is also getting on in years. But there is a good reason to recall them now at the start of automatica 2022. And I promise to provide an answer at the end of this post along with my rationale!

Was fasziniert Euch? Die meisten Menschen haben irgendein Thema, das sie voll in ihren Bann zieht. Bei mir war das immer schon die Technologie. Traktoren, als ich klein war. Dann irgendwann mein erstes Motorrad, an dem ich erstmal richtig schrauben musste, damit es überhaupt funktionierte. Ich habe absolutes Verständnis, wenn jemand für einen Traum alles gibt! Denn ich bin selbst sehr dankbar, dass ich in meinem Leben meine Begeisterung für Technologie sogar damit verbinden kann, etwas für die Gesellschaft zu tun, für die Menschen. Wir sind ja mit der Kognitiven Robotik gerade dabei, die ersten intelligenten, vielseitigen Helfer für den Alltag zu bauen. Wahrscheinlich ermöglichen kognitive Neura-Roboter zum Beispiel bald vielen älteren und hilfsbedürftigen Menschen, länger in den eigenen vier Wänden zu leben.
